Peter Sarlin: Building Europe’s Agentic AI Infrastructure

Peter Sarlin’s work sits at the intersection of artificial intelligence, financial stability, and large‑scale agentic systems. He is widely recognised as a Finnish AI entrepreneur, researcher, and CEO of Silo AI (now AMD Silo AI), as well as a professor at Aalto University. His career spans academic research on systemic risk, practical AI engineering, and the development of agent‑based applications that are beginning to influence European industry and commerce.

Born in 1986 in Turku, Sarlin is a machine‑learning specialist whose PhD focused on neural‑network architectures for monitoring financial stability. His dissertation, Mapping Financial Stability, examined how AI can detect early warning signs in complex financial systems. He has collaborated with institutions such as the European Central Bank, IMF, Bank of Finland, and Deutsche Bundesbank, building analytical tools for systemic‑risk monitoring and early‑warning systems.

In 2017, Sarlin founded Silo AI, which grew into one of Europe’s largest private AI labs before being acquired by AMD in 2024 for €665 million. He used part of the proceeds to establish his family office, PostScriptum, aimed at strengthening European AI research. Through PostScriptum, he donated 13 AI professorships to Finnish universities and the ELLIS network, marking one of the largest private investments in European AI talent development.

Sarlin also chairs several AI‑focused companies, including NestAI and Qutwo. Qutwo, launched from PostScriptum in February 2026, quickly raised €25 million at a €325 million valuation and secured more than €20 million in design partnerships with companies such as Zalando and OP Pohjola, one of Finland’s largest financial groups. Qutwo’s pitch is that quantum computers will eventually solve hard industrial problems—supply chains, financial modelling, drug discovery—but those solutions remain years away. Companies do not want to wait entirely, nor do they want to ignore quantum advances and fall behind. Qutwo sells the “in‑between”: practical tools that prepare enterprises for quantum‑enabled workflows while delivering value today.

Across these ventures, Sarlin’s central focus is agentic AI—systems built from multiple coordinated AI agents that act rather than merely respond. These systems are increasingly used in commerce, enterprise software, and decision‑support tools.

Agentic systems continuously read data from their environment—customer behaviour, financial indicators, product inventories, or workflow states. They function like digital assistants that constantly “look around” to understand what is happening. Instead of waiting for a human prompt, agents evaluate goals and constraints. In commerce, such as Zalando’s agentic‑commerce initiative, agents anticipate what a customer might need next, similar to a shop assistant who remembers a shopper’s style and suggests items proactively. In financial stability, Sarlin’s early‑warning models identify risk patterns and flag anomalies.

The defining feature of agentic AI is autonomous action. Sarlin’s agentic applications can trigger workflows, update records, generate content, make recommendations, coordinate multiple AI models, and interact with enterprise systems. In corporate settings, this resembles a team of digital workers capable of completing tasks across HR, finance, or customer‑service systems. Oracle describes this shift as moving from “systems of record” to “systems of outcomes”—software that runs the business, not just stores data.

Sarlin’s companies build architectures where multiple agents collaborate as a coordinated digital workforce. Advisor agents answer questions; planner agents break down tasks; executor agents perform actions in applications or databases; monitor agents track progress and detect anomalies. A major part of his work involves ensuring these agents use enterprise data safely—respecting access controls, maintaining audit trails, keeping sensitive data local, and integrating with existing infrastructure. This makes agentic AI viable for banks, retailers, and public institutions.

Sarlin’s agentic applications represent a shift from AI as a “smart tool” to AI as an active participant in business processes. They help organisations automate complex workflows, personalise customer experiences, detect risks early, scale decision‑making, and reduce manual work—positioning agentic AI as a foundational technology for Europe’s next industrial transformation.
