Unveiling Nordic Innovations

Fiskars – From Scissors to Innovative Professional Wrecking Tools

The Finnish company that makes internationally-known orange handled scissors has been moving fast with many other great innovations aimed at professionals in the construction market.

Your correspondent has recently built a new CLT-house where wood in its various forms was used for walls, flooring, cupboards and insulation. The skilled construction workers on site used plenty of battery operated drills for screws and  bolts, as well a battery operated sanders, planes, nail guns, saws and other cutting tools.

But when it came to removing wooden props and nails, they mainly used old-fashioned wrecking bars and poles that have not been redesigned for the last 100 years!

The recent developments of construction tools has been driven by the need to have more battery-driven robust tools, accompanied by better designed hand tools that cannot be replaced by motorised solutions….

Now after years of planning Fiskars has come out with versatile innovations for a simple looking wrecking tool that is a strong and ergonomic multitasking tool. It can pull nails, claw onto tough wooden props, and be used as an efficient lever to loosen the strongest supporting joints. It does not look much, but it easier and safer to carry than the old fashioned pieces of iron that often bent under pressure or slip out of a tight spot because the metal is either too thick or too brittle…

… and Fiskars has made the enormous progress with re-inventing rakes, spades, hoes, water hoses, hammers, saws, branch cutters and axes as you can see below.

Axes for splitting wood are especially important here in a forested countries here in the North where many of us use these specially designed Fiskars axes for cutting logs for our heating our homes and saunas. The axes feel good to handle, and cut through the toughest logs with the minimum of effort. They are designed to remain sharp and undamaged even after years of heavy use…

… and they remain the preferred cutting tool in the forests, alongside our orange scissors in the kitchen.
