Rerun: Pioneering the Future of Physical AI Data Infrastructure

Rerun, a Stockholm-based startup, is building an innovative multimodal data stack tailored for Physical AI. The company aims to bridge the gap between AI and real-world applications by developing a high-performance database and cloud data platform that caters to robotics, autonomous vehicles, drones, and spatial computing devices.

Main Products

Rerun’s primary offering is a multimodal data infrastructure designed for Physical AI applications. The company provides:

  • A Purpose-Built Database – This database efficiently manages complex multimodal data such as video streams, 3D scenes, and tensors, which evolve over time. It offers developers a seamless experience for working with Physical AI data.
  • An Open-Source Visualization Toolkit – Rerun’s toolkit helps developers create high-performance visualizations, enabling better debugging and analysis of AI behavior in real-world environments.
  • Cloud Data Platform – This cloud solution facilitates data management, providing a unified ecosystem for AI model training, testing, and deployment.

These products collectively empower developers to experiment, iterate, and deploy AI solutions faster, ultimately accelerating advancements in robotics and automation.

Revenue Generation Strategy

Rerun anticipates generating revenue through multiple streams:

  • Commercial Database Offering – The company plans to monetize its purpose-built Physical AI database, which is currently in development and expected to be available later this year.
  • Enterprise Solutions – Large corporations and AI-driven businesses are likely to subscribe to Rerun’s commercial platform for data management and visualization.
  • Cloud Services – Rerun’s cloud data platform could follow a subscription-based model, providing access to premium tools and support for developers.
  • Consulting and Integration Services – Given its expertise in Physical AI, Rerun may offer professional services to businesses looking to integrate its data solutions.

Funding and Investors

Rerun has secured substantial financial backing to fuel its expansion. The company has raised €18.6 million in total funding, with a recent seed round of €15.6 million. The round was led by Point Nine, with participation from Sunflower Capital, Costanoa Ventures, and Seedcamp.

Notable angel investors include:

Guillermo Rauch (CEO of Vercel), Oliver Cameron (CEO of Odyssey), Wes McKinney (Creator of pandas, Apache Arrow, and Ibis), Eric Jang (VP of AI at 1X), Nicolas Dessaigne (General Partner at Y Combinator)

The funding will be used to further develop its commercial offerings and expand its open-source initiatives.

Founders and Key Team Members

Rerun was founded in 2022 by Nikolaus West (CEO), Emil Ernerfeldt (CTO), and Moritz Schiebold (COO). The team includes veterans from leading tech firms such as Apple, AWS, Meta, Unity, Zenly, and Zipline. CTO Emil Ernerfeldt is particularly renowned for creating egui, the largest open-source GUI framework in Rust.

Global Expansion Plans

Rerun’s technology has already gained traction among major AI and robotics companies, with its open-source visualization tools being utilized by Meta, Google, Hugging Face, and Unitree. As AI continues to integrate with physical environments, Rerun expects to expand its commercial reach to key global markets, particularly in North America, Europe, and Asia, where advancements in autonomous systems and robotics are rapidly progressing.
