VTT – Latest Innovation Highlights

VTT’s current portfolio showcases a strong push toward advanced materials, clean energy systems, circularity, and next‑generation food technologies

Dispelix’s AR waveguide development is being accelerated through VTT’s shared cleanroom infrastructure, giving the company access to state‑of‑the‑art microfabrication tools and expert maintenance. This open-access model strengthens Finland’s microelectronics and photonics cluster, enabling faster R&D scaling.

From the energy sector, VTT’s collaboration with Elcogen is advancing high‑performance solid oxide fuel cell and electrolyser technologies, supported by VTT’s validation infrastructure. This partnership aims to speed up commercialisation of green‑transition solutions.

Circularity is represented by TexMat, an AI‑enabled textile sorting and resale system that uses digital product passportsto streamline Europe’s used‑clothing flows.

In food innovation, the Cell2Food initiative integrates engineering, consumer research and stakeholder engagement to bring plant cell culture–based foods closer to market readiness.

VTT is also coordinating WIBASE, a national effort to develop wide‑bandgap semiconductor technologies for international power‑electronics markets.

Additional EU‑level initiatives include the SUPREME superconducting technology consortium and MiNaMi, which is developing Europe’s first megawatt‑scale PEM fuel cell system for sustainable shipping.
