As you can see here fom the picture above the Danish Prime Minister hosted Nordic colleagues from Finland, Norway, and Sweden for dinner at her home, after a meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office.
We have always stood together as Nordic countries – the new and more unpredictable reality we face means that it is important to maintain strong alliances and friendships.
Their meeting last weekend (26.1.2025) discussed regional defence and security cooperation – a high priority for Denmark, for the Nordic region, and for the rest of Europe.
Nordic governments think about making the region and the rest of Europe a safer place where people can go about their lives in peace and security. When leaders of governments that are supposed to be close allies threaten us with horrendous behaviour we do not sit back and crumble but get together to stand up for ourselves.
We do not expect to be bullied, but treated with respect – all members of the OECD expect from all other members, including the USA.
“The cornerstone of Nordic innovation is established in Nordic honesty and cooperation“
We know that in such an environment, we build better lives for ourselves through education, diligent honest work, and open markets. It is a combination of these that delivers the innovations from science and business that we export to the world.
Our societies plan for good education and healthcare for all; we honour the rule of law, where all are equal before the law; we look after our borders; we care for the elderly; we provide social support and safety nets for others who need help and care; and we make sure that our land, water and air are clean. Climate change is taken seriously, as are hybrid threats against our democracies and infrastructure.
We still have several close allies with whom we share common values. And we belong to a continent that we are in the process of making even stronger. This is an important task for our governments and this applies militarily, but also economically and technologically.
