The stability of the power grid is crucial to meet society’s energy needs and enable the transition to renewable energy sources like wind and solar power, as these sources are weather-dependent and cause variations in electricity production. This requires flexible solutions that can balance supply and demand in real-time. Traditionally, large expensive batteries are traditionally used to manage these fluctuations.
Ambidex offers a smarter alternative, by using existing cooling systems, such as those in grocery stores, the power grid can be stabilized without the need for new infrastructure. The technology allows for adjusting the energy consumption of cooling systems in real-time to balance the load on the power grid without affecting their primary function.
Ambidex shares the revenue from flexibility services with these connected stores. For a cooling system with 70 kW active power, this can mean revenues of up to 100,000 SEK per year, depending on market prices and demand at different times.
